ALUMNI STORIES

Annually, the DLP brings the ‘best of the best’ to each program. Over 10,000 student leaders have now attended a DLP. Click the names below to view profiles of 8 of our student leaders who attended our past programs.

Kerstin Diesch

Academic Standing: Sophomore status at University of Minnesota, Twin Cities

Campus Activities: Diversity Director of Society of Women Engineers, member of Admissions Ambassadors, Captain of Intramural Volleyball; SWE Representative of Institute of Technology Student Board; and a member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA)

DLP Experience: "From the crazy amount of energy and fun, to the life-long friends, and the career knowledge I have gained, all I can do is say thank you Monster DLP, you rock my world."

Life after the DLP: The DLP has helped me become more confident. I now go into career fairs relaxed and prepared to highlight my true skills and passions knowing that my resume is amazing and that I am totally capable of getting an internship or just anything I put my mind to.

Dream Job: Obtain a career in a major aerospace company designing a prototype that will have a major impact in the space industry, and the future of mankind.

Justin Ho

Academic Standing: Junior status at University of Southern California

Campus Activities: Board of Directors of USC Credit Union Glatt Consulting; Lead Consultant of LLC

DLP Experience: "I remember standing there on the final day on stage, as the motivational speaker referenced to me and said corporations are looking for the next ‘Justins.’ Those willing to give in their all and differentiate themselves by striving to do everything they can to accomplish a goal."

Life after the DLP: Currently on an internship hunt! In the meantime, I am working for a credit union consulting firm.

Dream Job: To become an ‘Investment Banker’

Destynee Powell

Academic Standing: Senior status at University of Southern California

Campus Activities: Members of HAPA Club, Annenberg Black Student Association, Chinese American Student Association, and USC Trojan Transfer Association.

DLP Experience: "My most memorable moment at the DLP conference was during our group "roll call." It's sometimes done randomly without my knowledge until I hear the distinct jingle "Centex -- is going down!...at the DLP is guaranteed to go down!"

Life after the DLP: I will graduate this coming May 2008 and am excited to see what the world has to offer. DLP has prepared me with such vital tools that I am ready to take on the real world!

Dream Job: A Beauty Editor for Allure Magazine

David Allen Wong

Academic Standing: Junior status at University of California, San Diego

Campus Activities: Member of Tau Beta Pi- Engineering Honor Society, VP of Initiate American Institute of Chemical Engineers; Masquerade Ball and Single Service Committee Member of Internal Circle K International; and Lab Assistant of Environment Health & Safety Radiation Services Lab

DLP Experience: "I was in Group 12 at the Los Angeles DLP. Go Shaw!!! Being in this group totally broke me out of my enclosed world. My strongest impressions were left by Hector. Hector was a Mormon and held different beliefs from mine. Despite this, I was inspired to hear his story. My strongest memories are the ones of us sharing and connecting with each other throughout the weekend."

Life after the DLP: From DLP, I learned that meeting new people and getting work experience is just as important, if not more, than good grades! Coming back to school this year, I took up on researching with Chemical Engineering professor, Dr. Talbot. I've accomplished my goal of finding some undergraduate research to do!

Dream Job: Gain a position in nanotechnology industry position where I make materials out of quantum dots, nanowires, nanofibers, nano-you name it!

David Choi

Academic Standing: Graduate of Michigan Sate University

Campus Activities: Public Relations for Korean Student Association; Executive Director of Korean Student Organization; Member of MSU Roller Hockey Club; Freshmen Rep & IR Senator of James Madison College Senate; Team Lead in Student Consulting for Non-Profit Organization; Founder of Michigan State University Accounting Club for Asian; and MSU Rep of PwC Project New Orleans

DLP Experience: "The workshops on resume and interview techniques, diversity, and presentations by the speakers were valuable. Even more, the numerous opportunities to interact with my group sponsors, QTG-Pepsi and Plastipak, throughout the weekend were PRICELESS!"

Life after the DLP: I met my current employer (Plastipak) at DLP in 2006, and I’m currently working in the internal management consulting group. I’m involved with various projects and it provides me an opportunity to travel to Europe and South America!

Dream Job: Gain a position in International Business Development.

Toshiba T. Bennett

Academic Standing: Graduate of Rutgers University

Campus Activities: I was an active member on the annual food & clothing drive for Students 4 Students.

DLP Experience: "Going to the workshops really gave me the help I needed with my interview skills and also how to improve my resume."

Life after the DLP: After the DLP I met with the Enterprise-Rent-A-Car representative and was hired right on the spot to begin my internship. Since then I have made the company’s TOP RANKINGS and have been promoted four times. Life for me after the DLP has been nothing but a blessing!

Dream Job: In the next 5 to 10 years, I still see myself at Enterprise-Rent-A-Car as a Vehicle Repair Manager, in charge of Entire Region Repairs.

Navjot Singh

Academic Standing: Senior status at Baruch College, CUNY

Campus Activities: Co-founder & Treasurer of United Sikh Association; Member of Investment Banking Club

DLP Experience: "The whole weekend was a unique experience. The learning curve was very steep, while the enjoyment exceeded expectations. There was no one moment that stood out the most except one, where a true leader emerged before my eyes."

Life after the DLP: Continuing to "step out of the box" by learning, setting new goals, and constantly striving to achieve them. Current goal is to land a full time position.

Dream Job: Sports Budgeting Specialist for a major professional team.

Rachel Anderson

Academic Standing: Graduate of University of Florida

Campus Activities: Vice President of The Society of Professional Journalists; Writer of The Independent Florida Alligator); Top Editor of Orange and Blue Magazine; Resident Assistant for Beaty Towers West dormitory; Feature Writer (Intern) of The Gainesville Su); Team Captain of Intramurals co-ed softball; and player for co-ed flag football

DLP Experience: "Our backgrounds and ethnicities were entirely different, yet we were able to look each other in the eyes, network and share our many dreams. I can't even imagine how much combined intelligence was in the room-- it's a powerful idea."

Life after the DLP: A year after attending the DLP, I graduated from UF and was accepted to Teach for America. I am currently an English and Special Education teacher at Discovery High School in New York City. I live and work in the Bronx and am getting my masters degree at Pace University in Manhattan on the weekends. I teach 9th and 10th graders at Discovery, run a student magazine, and coach pitching for the campus softball team. I am still writing on the side and plan to continue publishing and writing books in the future. One day every child in this nation will have the opportunity to attain an excellent education.

Dream Job: In 5-10 years I hope I am working as a foreign correspondent for a national magazine, such as TIME.
